Papa Johns Trophy

Thankfully, a buffer of two cup wins sits between tomorrow and the last league outing at Swindon, which saw us lose a game which we really, really should have won. I don’t think anybody would begrudge Swindon a battling performance and they did what we thought a lot more teams would be doing, which was punish us for not taking our chances. A rather satisfying win against Fleetwood (in which they couldn’t muster a single shot on target) and a slightly less comfortable but nevertheless acceptable victory against EFL new boys Harrogate Town has given City a bit of belief going into yet another hectic schedule.

Late goals from James Scott and Callum Jones gave the Tigers victory over Harrogate in the Papa John’s Trophy.

City created a plethora of chances but it wasn’t until 15 minutes from time they finally made the breakthrough as substitute Scott converted the impressive Martin Samuelsen’s cross.

Captain-for-the-night Callum Jones made sure of the win with five minutes remaining when he won and converted a penalty after being upended by Tom Walker.

The hosts could have pulled one back in added time but Alfie Jones made a fine block to deny Jake Lawlor and keep the Tigers' clean sheet intact.

The result moved Grant McCann's men up to third in Northern Group E heading into their final group fixture against Grimsby next Tuesday.

Grant McCann had made 10 changes from the FA Cup victory over Fleetwood, with Alfie Jones the only man to keep his place.
