How it's measuring up so far.........

The first chapter of the Premier League Season has concluded and made way for the newly formatted international break that sees the old September and October breaks merge into a 16 day stretch running from 21st September through to October the 6th reducing the 4 break season into 3.

Hull City with 5 games played sit a tidy 8th place in the league after a very bright start of 2 straight wins over Man Utd and Coventry, onto 2 respectable draws with Chelsea and Villa, finishing with a battling defeat at Newcastle United in front of a 52,000 crowd. putting a total of 8 points on the board.

History in the making as Sergej has tabled City in the highest ever position in the Prem on 5 games just tipping Phil Brown's 9th place back in 2008 with exactly the same results of W2 D2 L1, ironically beating Newcastle 2-1 in that spell, Marlon King getting both goals but also remembered for that leg breaking tackle on Craig Fagan. This season to date we've used 26 players, had 3 clean sheets but an unhealthy 17 yellow cards that will at some point start adding up to suspensions if we don't calm it down a bit.

All in all a dream start for a manager that has been at the club about 15 months, 18 new signings who joined us in the summer and a very generous investment from one of the most passionate owners Hull City has seen since, arguably Don Robinson that promised "one day, we'll play on the moon". It never happed of course but he meant it. Nothing was too good for City and there's a shiny little glint of that in Acun.

So, the globe trotting. Who's going where?

Semi Ajayi has a call up for Nigeria, Jens Dahl will be in the squad for Norway, MoBo will be following in his dads talented footsteps for Algeria, Oli McBurnie has earned a another bite of the cherry with Scotland, John Egan has been selected for the Republic of Ireland, Paddy McNair, North of the Border for Northern Ireland, the newly crowned young player of the year for Australia, Lucas Herrington, The very Nobel Mendy is lining up for Senegal, Christos Mouzakitis and Konstantinos Tzolakis will be donning their Togas for Greece, Elliot Stroud picked for Sweden, Sorba Thomas for the Welsh and Canada have not been put off by the loan out of Liam Millar who is currently pulling up trees at Birmingham City and bagged him for their squad.

11 City players in total, all wanting to put themselves under the international spotlight and for 5 of the above players, their action starts on Thursday evening. For the fans it's 16 days of hoping praying our players stay injury free both in the games and in training but that also counts for the bread and butter players not selected who will be carrying on, business as usual up at Cottingham as well as those scattered around the globe. Our next domestic game is back at the MKM on 11th October against Everton who are sat 1 point and 1 place above us and that game can't come quick enough.

No doubt our Maverick owner will be jetting off to a few games to see how one or two of our stars perform on the world stage and must be proud as punch to be in the elite club of the who's who of English football and the best division on the planet, whilst being able to present 11 of our players to their respective countries to fly the Hull flag along with their nations colours.

The very best of luck to all our players involved on international duty, But save some energy.

Chapter Two...Everton and beyond. Coming soon.

UTT.
