Coventry City v Hull City Match Preview 24.04.2024

Context
A must win game for both sides, if either is to make the coveted play offs.

Form
Coventry 3 wins from their last 6 at home.
Scoring 12 and conceding 9 goals.
The Tigers 3 wins and 2 draws from their last 6 away games. Scoring 8, whilst shipping 6 goals.
So pretty tight, on paper and a high probability of both sides scoring.

Wembley
However, a lot depends on how fatigued the hosts are, after their valiant and unlucky Cup semi final exploits.
Almost 130 minutes plus penalty kicks and an excruciating way to lose.
Difficult to recover physically and mentally from?

However we watched Manchester City shake off their Champions League extra time and penalty defeat and still beat Chelsea less than 72 hours later.

VAR Out
Coventry are sponsored by King of Shaves and it really was a close shave, denied by an offside decision, the width of a razor blade.

VAR was sold on being the cure, to clear and obvious errors.
The last kick Wembley winner, cruelly ruled out, was neither clear nor obvious.
Jimmy Hill would be turning in his grave.

Conclusion
The Gods have given Hull City an advantage in being fresher and better prepared.
We should also benefit from the recent 3 week break.
Liam Delap is back, Carvalho is scoring goals.

Hull City must win, ideally by a few goals, although I’d take a one nil win now.

Win this and it’s on to the penultimate round, still in with a chance.

Assuming everyone is fit then I’d expect to see:
Allsop
Coyle
Greaves
Jones
Jacob
Seri
Morton
Philogene
Delay
Carvalho
Tufan (or Omur)

Prediction
Sky Blues 1v3 The Tigers
