A pleas for some expertise in an update from our Vice President

In a couple of weeks, we will approach the first anniversary of our Hull City Memorabilia Event at which over 50 supporters displayed their treasured items of Hull City memorabilia. Following the event, the Senior Tigers Committee set up a sub-committee to organise an On-Line Museum. With no football club museum and the fear that items held by supporters would be lost as following generations didn’t have the same passion for the club as their parents, etc. There is a need to save at least an image of these treasured items. The On-Line Museum was seen as a way of keeping the past and our ever increasing rich history alive. So we set out to scan and photograph as many supporters collections or items of particular interesting as possible.

This has turned out to be an enormous task. At the event, David Bond, well-known sports author, former HDM City Reporter, and Tigers Historian said to me, “You have unleashed a monster”. He may well be right. So as the first anniversary of starting the project approaches its time to update you.

We have a web site that will store and display in an attractive manner all we want it to. However, the database platform on which it stands is proving to be an issue. We are looking for an expert or an organisation that can provide the technical know how we don’t have. We have asked at the University and at local college without success. We do have an area to investigate and hopefully, we will be able to move on shortly.

This has not stopped our small team locating, recording and imaging many interesting items, plus we have the images of nearly 500 items taken at the event in February 2018. We are hopeful that in 2/3 months we will be able to start to show you the first images in the museum, provided the technical issues are overcome.

We are in contact with a number of serious collectors and have contacts for ex-players as well as you the STC members and fans. We know of 2 supporters who have every match programme, home and away since 1946, now those are collections of note and to be proud of. There is obviously some reluctance from these collectors to release their treasured items to us for imaging so we will continue with what we are given access to.
It is our intention to scan every page of all programmes involving Hull City up to 1970. We plan to scan as many documents and photograph as many objects as we possibly can. So, if you have anything of interest we don’t know about please get in touch. Also, if you know of a relative, friend, etc. who have collections, please ask them to contact the Senior Tigers Committee via the CONTACT link on the web site. As we only have limited resources we ask you to be patient with us. We will make contact with new collectors and achieve our objective but the “monster” keeps on growing.

If you find what we are doing of interest and would like to be part of the team, searching, speaking to Hull City supporters, recording collections, imaging these fantastic items, please let us know. We will find you a job. A day a month or even the odd hour a week will be of enormous help.

Lastly, Rob Wilson, our technical expert has been working hard on another aspect of the memorabilia and heritage. The Hull City Gallery on the web site will eventually show the clubs history in pictures. Rob hopes to have a team photo for every season since 1904, plus other important moments in the club’s history. He has already achieved a lot and you can view his work on the STC web site. He also wants to put a name to every player in the team photos and that numbers over 3000. There are some blanks but the web site allows you the viewer to add names. Please visit www.seniortigers.org.uk , have a browse and if you can name an unnamed player, follow the simple instructions and be part of what we are doing.

Hopefully, we will be able to report real progress soon and eventually have something every Hull City fan will want to view and we can be proud of.
