Blades (London) 0 Hull 4
by Lee Dolman
My Grandad took me to my first game against Sheffield United on New Years Eve, 1977.
We won 3v2. The atmosphere was both electric and intimidating.
We sat in the Best Seats with a case of Long Life for my Grandad, my Uncle and his friends.
I was hooked and would get to as many home games as possible.
Hull City and Sheffield United followed each other up and down the leagues in the 70's and 80's.
A rivalry grew and the games were always fiercely competitive, on and off the pitch.
I remember Sheffield United bringing 7,000 fans to Boothferry for a 4th Division match, with huge numbers arriving on train at the Boothferry Park halt.
We have many connections, Regan Slater, Keith Edward’s, Billy Whitehurst and Paul Heaton of the Housemartins / Beautiful South.
For me, this is the start of our season. Circa 25 players out and 16 in, will take some bedding in.
Surely the season start should dovetail with the closing of the transfer window?
Tim Walter has a tough job and needs us all behind him.
We have some decent signings, and we should see a few of them tonight.
I expect a close game tonight against the blades. They have made an indifferent start but will have quality in their squad.
I’m hoping that Tim has used the international break wisely and formulated his best side.
My predicted XI:
Pander
Coyle
Jones
Hughes
Giles
Puerta
Omur
Zambrano
Millar
Bedia
Kamara
Score: Tigers 1v1 Blades
