The bursting of our bubble was going to come sooner or later so might as well have been today. Another great build up to the game today, good footage on the screen good noise and 20.5K set the scene for what we hoped was going to be another gritty performance
but as it happens, it was as luke warm as my Waffle Fries last week.
Happy to see Kamara dropped, no doubt going through his new club protocols but worrying that Hughes was not playing any part. We didn't just lose our best defender but also a leader and captain.
McCarthy did OK to a degree and put in a better 2nd half but lack of cohesion and organisation along the back cost us.
Our passing was woeful. first touch was a desperate one and the second, an effort to win the ball back from a very tight marking Blackburn. Pretty much man for man and didn't give us time to breath or think which suffocated us from playing football.
Problem was, no one saw that we continued to play to feet instead of playing to space which would have seen us have more of a chance on the ball. Hat's off to Ex City Macca as he had McBurnie in his pocket all afternoon. He was all over him and locked him down.
Blackburn played some slick football and TBH worthy winners that took their chances with ease.
I can't point the finger at any one player today as all were off their game in every department so my man of the match has to be Steve Jordan the Match Presenter who's has seemingly got louder with age. Good to hear his voice again.
Disappointed but not too downhearted as we all knew this is going to be a difficult season. Even with 11 or 12 players we never expected because of the Embargo we were never going to be anywhere near the best squad in the champ so 4 points from 3 games would
average us with 61 points over the season.
Today was the test we needed. There will be better teams than Blackburn to face so a good early chance to learn how to cope. I would have the players back in tomorrow just to sit down in front of a replay and have an autopsy.
A note on the Ref. I'm never one for blaming refs for wins or losses and today is no different but have to say a round of applause for him not reacting to Rovers players dropping dead on the pitch holding their heads. He just let play continue...Amazingly they
bounced back up, fully recovered but highly miffed they never got the attention they craved or stopped the game which was their cheating intent when we had momentum.
Bad day at the office but at least we haven't got Ruben Selles who's just lost his 3rd game out of 3 for the Blunts.
