Pre-season signings reviewed by Alex Green

Hull City kick off the 2018/19 Championship at home to promotion chasing Aston Villa. Here is a look at how the new signings can add to the team against Villa and for the rest of the season.
The Tigers have made six signings so far, after 13 players left at the end of last season leaving head coach Nigel Adkins with a huge task of rebuilding his squad.
Goalkeeper George Long has come in from Sheffield United having previously worked there with Adkins and the 24-year-old, who has already amassed over 200 appearances in club football looks set to provide strong cover for David Marshall alongside youngsters Will Mannion and Callum Burton.
The defence has seen a complete overhaul after the exits of Moses Odubajo, Ola Aina, Michael Hector, Fikayo Tomori, Max Clark and club captain Michael Dawson. Right back Eric Lichaj has been signed from Nottingham Forest and the 29-year-old USA international who has previously played for Aston Villa looks to be a solid signing at £400,000. Another signing was centre back Jordy de Wijs from PSV. The 23-year-old put in a series of solid displays last season over 20 appearances for Excelsior in the Eredivisie last season and again looks to be a decent signing for The Tigers. Adkins opted to sign another centre back in the form of West Ham youngster Reece Burke. The former Bradford City player of the season looks to be a fantastic signing at just £1.2m for a player with Premier League pedigree.
In midfield, Todd Kane has signed on a season long loan from Chelsea and whilst naturally a right back he has played pre-season games at right midfield. Having been on the books at Chelsea since he was in the under-8s team he has spent most of his career out on loan at clubs including Blackburn Rovers, Bristol City and Nottingham Forest so he knows what it takes to play at this level, although it is likely he will only provide cover to Eric Lichaj and Jarrod Bowen on City’s right flank.
The final addition to Adkins’ squad was tricky winger David Milinkovic signed from Italian side Genoa. He spent last season on loan at Scottish club Hearts, scoring 6 times in 24 league games and looks to be another solid signing from Nigel Adkins. However, with the unlikely return of Kamil Grosicki to City, he could be forced to take a backseat or come on as an impact sub for the foreseeable future.
After what looked like a definite relegation team when 13 first team players left at the end of last season, Nigel Adkins looks to have made some very positive signings, giving fans hope of a successful season.

Nigel Adkins’ likely team for the season:

Formation: 4-2-3-1

GK: David Marshall
RB: Eric Lichaj
CB: Angus MacDonald
CB: Reece Burke
LB: Stephen Kingsley
CM: Markus Henriksen (C)
CM: Daniel Batty
RW: Jarrod Bowen
CAM: Evandro
LW: Kamil Grosicki
ST: Nouha Dicko
