ERIC LICHAJ

ERIC LICHAJ – DEFENDER
BORN: 17 NOVEMBER 1988
COUNTRY: USA

Born in the US state of Illinois, to Polish parents, Eric Lichaj’s early football years were spent in the American college system. Eric’s next move was to cross the pond from America to England when he was signed by Aston Villa in 2007.

Eric initially played in Villa reserve side during the 2008/09 season before being loaned out, to gain valuable first team experience. Eric had loan spells with both Lincoln City and Leyton Orient.

A senior Villa debut came at the start of the 2010/11 season in a Europa League tie against Rapid Vienna and that was soon followed by his first Premier League appearances as he became a regular figure in the first team squad.

Further experience came with a loan spell at Leeds United and when his first team chances at Villa Park became limited, Nottingham Forest won the race to land his signature in time for the 2013/14 season.

At the City Ground he became a first team regular straightaway and over five seasons he went on to make almost 200 appearances for the club and in doing so, winning their Player of the Season award for 2016/17 after receiving over 40% of the vote.

On the international scene, Lichaj has represented the US at various age levels and he made his senior debut against Colombia in 2010. At the time of joining the Tigers, he had 15 international caps to his name.

Eric Lichaj signed a two-year deal with Hull City in June 2018.
