For the season

Hull City have signed defender Matthew Pennington on a season-long loan deal.

The 24-year-old centre back joins from Everton and already has plenty of Championship experience having spent the last two seasons on loan with Leeds United and Ipswich Town respectively.

Pennington has been on Everton’s books since the age of 11, making his senior debut for the Toffees in a League Cup victory over Barnsley in 2015. He has also made seven Premier League appearances and achieved the dream of many an Evertonian when scoring against Liverpool at Anfield in 2017.

Speaking after joining the Tigers, Pennington said: “I’m really pleased to be here and I’m feeling fit and ready to go.

“As soon as I became aware of the interest in me from Hull City I was straight onto it. I was looking to get back out on loan and was ready to come back into the Championship so I’m looking forward to the season ahead.”
